Laser Eye Surgery in Shreveport, LA

Happy Couple after LASIK surgery for cataracts.

Lasik Surgery Shreveport

Laser eye surgery has helped millions of people, just like you, see clearly independent of glasses or contact lenses. LASIK, SMILE®, and PRK can enable people to resume their active lifestyles again without the aid of glasses and contact lenses. Imagine being able to work out without the inconvenience of your glasses slipping. Picture waking up and being able to see the alarm clock first thing in the morning. Envision life without the hassle of putting lenses in each day free and free of the worry they will dry out as the day passes. If you are ready to say goodbye to all of these annoyances, Laser Vision Correction is just the thing for you.

Because The Cataract Surgeons are refractive eye care experts, Dr. Shelby, and Dr. Coleman perform a variety of vision surgeries to improve eyesight. In addition to being the only medical facility in Louisiana to offer SMILE®, they also perform two other laser vision correction procedures; LASIK and PRK. They know eye surgery isn’t a one size fit all, and because of this, they treat patients on the case by case basis. That’s why they have trained extensively in the use of several different techniques and sought out only the best technology to bring to the Ark-La-Tex.

Laser vision correction is a type of refractive surgery. The goal of any refractive surgical procedure is to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. In laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK, SMILE®, and PRK the cornea is the clear ‘window’ in front of your pupil. Reshaping this surface allows images that enter the eye to focus properly on the retina (the sensitive layer of tissue lining the back of the eye that allows you to see objects and images).

Who Is A Laser Eye Surgery Candidate?

Who Is A Laser Eye Surgery Candidate?

If you are 18 years of age and older and wearing glasses or contact lenses, you may qualify for one of the three options available exclusively here at WK Refractive Surgery Center. To determine if you are a candidate, we recommend you call any one of our three convenient locations to schedule a FREE screening. The screenings are available to you Monday through Friday and will take approximately 30 minutes. For the screening, you may wear your contact lenses, and no dilation drops will be used; therefore, you will be able to return to work or proceed with your day. Instead of scheduling a free screening, you may choose to proceed with scheduling a more comprehensive pre-surgical evaluation with one of our skilled team members. Our trained staff will guide you on the path to freedom from glasses and/or contact lenses.

The screening is FREE. After your screening, you will then be required to come back in for a more comprehensive pre-surgical evaluation. Our fee for this service is $250.00. This evaluation will take between 1 – 2 hours to allow us the necessary time to determine which procedure is best suited for your visual needs and to review your preop and postop care. You will meet with your surgeon and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have to pertain to your selected procedure.

Because this is an elective procedure, we will not file this evaluation with your insurance. Our fee for SMILE®/LASIK/PRK is $2500.00 per eye. During the 1st year following your procedure, all follow-up visits pertaining to your procedure as well as any enhancements are included in the surgery fee. This price also includes post-operative eye drops and eye shields.

We have promotional pricing throughout the year. Please make sure to enquire during your evaluation to see if you qualify for additional savings.

*We do offer discounts for Fireman, Police Officers, Teachers, Active Military members, and Willis-Knighton employees.

We have several payment options available for your convenience.

Payment methods: Any major credit card, Healthcare Spending Accounts and Financing available through CareCredit (to those who qualify).

**Only one discount can be applied.

What To Expect On The Day Of Your Laser Eye Surgery Procedure

What To Expect On The Day Of Your Laser Eye Surgery Procedure

At the WK Refractive Surgery Center, we have provided for you and your family a very comfortable waiting area. We have available to you and your family refreshments, television and WiFi. We also have a room dedicated to our “family viewing room” where only your family can observe your surgery and be right there with you to share in this experience. Both you and your family should be prepared to be with us on the day of your procedure for approximately 2-3 hours.

You will be given Valium before taking you into the laser suite. The purpose of the Valium is to help relax you; it will not put you to sleep. Once in the laser suite, we will clean around your eyes with medicated soap. Throughout the procedure, we will put drops in your eyes to numb them, there is no pain.

Once we have finished the procedure and you sit up, you will immediately appreciate the improvement in your vision. Most patients describe their vision, at that moment, to be similar to opening their eyes underwater with a slight fuzzy/haziness to everything. Our patients begin to describe what they can now see in the room, or how they can read the clock on the wall. When patients see their family members, they smile as they realize they are seeing without glasses or contact lenses. For the staff, it is a moment that we never tire observing.

After your procedure, your doctor will meet with you and your family to answer any final questions. We then encourage you to go home and sleep for the first 3 – 5 hours following surgery. Once you wake up from your nap, the rest of your day, you will enjoy your renewed vision.

Your follow up visits are 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.
